Chevy Cars: Popular Models & Reviews

Chevrolet is one of America's oldest automotive brands. While Ford may be more famous as the American originator of the Model T, the Chevy Series C quickly took its place as one of the best built and most powerful of the early automobiles. That tradition of well-made and powerful vehicles has continued today and is part of why Chevy Cars are so popular and respected.

Today Chevy is known for producing some of the most powerful trucks and SUVs on the road as well as a range of sporty cars. Recently Chevy's hybrid cars have moved into the spotlight and are being recognized as a contender in this market as well.

Top Chevy Cars and Trucks

Chevy produces a wide range of family friendly cars and SUVs, as well as powerful trucks and sports cars. From their sports cars to fuel efficient vehicles and powerful trucks to family friendly SUVs, these cars are popular among drivers of all types. Some of the most popular models of Chevy Cars include the Volt, Cruze, Corvette, Equinox, Tahoe, and Silverado.

The Redesigned Chevy Volt

While Honda and Toyota may have beat Chevy to building the best hybrid cars, the American manufacturer is quickly making up for lost time. Chevy cars have always been available in fuel efficient options such as high output four cylinder engines and lightweight coupe cars, but nothing compares to the gasoline/electric combo of the Chevy Volt.

This car plugs in to charge a battery pack, which can propel the car about 50 miles using two electric motors, additionally the gasoline engine can charge the battery or power the wheels when the batter runs out. This is a reliability feature not offered by the Toyota, Honda, or even Tesla electric cars. The 2015 model has been redesigned to offer more room in the back seat, but it remains limited because of the car's small size. Of all the Chevy cars available today, this is one of the best for the environmentally conscious consumer.

Chevy Cruze

The Chevy Cruze has been the leader in sales for Chevy Cars in recent years. The Cruze is popular for its small size, but powerful engine and roomy interior. The newest models offer a widened wheel base to make up for the slightly stuffy interior of the older models. Additionally, the 1.8 liter engine provides fuel efficiency and horsepower. Other available options include a diesel engine. Still very much an economy car, the features and performance offered in the Cruze make it one worth taking a second look at.

Chevy Silverado

Perhaps the only American vehicles more respected than Chevy cars are Chevy trucks. Models have come and gone over the years but the Silverado remains a strong offering. So much so that many of the GM commercial van offerings are based on the Silverado frame and drive train options.

Of all Chevy trucks, the Silverado is the most versatile. It is available with a 4.3 liter V6 capable of 24 mph highway and towing 7,200 pounds, a 5.3 liter V8 capable of towing 11,500 pounds, and a 6.2 liter V8 pumping 420 Horsepower, 460 lb-ft of torque, and capable of towing 12,000 pounds. All engines include variable cam timing, cylinder deactivation to save fuel at low speeds and while not towing. The modern Chevy's are well known for handling smoothly, with steering that is often said to be as accurate as a car rather than a truck.
